2nd grade has gotten into the swing of things already. We are working on improving our reading and decoding skills by focusing on phonics and phonemic awareness. We have been reading stories together as a class, individually, and even choosing a book and reading our favorite parts aloud!

In math, we have been focusing on addition and studying our math facts. We’ve made our own flashcards and use them each day to reinforce math skills. We also play various math games, including “Math Facts Memory,” “Number Line Leapfrog,” and doing lots of hands-on activities.

In science we have been studying the parts of a plant and their functions. Just recently we planted seeds to observe their growth. We also split open a seed to see how it looks on the inside. Earlier in the month we observed two plants; one received sunlight and the other didn’t.

It has been a fun month, and we look forward to October!
