Sixth
grade ELA News
This month,
the 6th grade has been working
diligently on various elements of
literature while reading several short
stories under the collection theme
“Unforgettable Personalities.”
Students have focused on such elements
as the chronological sequencing of
events in stories, character traits with
supporting details, and finding conflict
and conflict resolution between
characters. Having read such stories as
“A Glory Over Everything: The Harriet
Tubman Story,” “The Mysterious
Mr. Lincoln,” and “Dentistry,” which
is an excerpt from the well-known novel
“The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,”
by Mark Twain, students were able to
create charts, write reflections, and
act out portions of a story, in order to
keep track of, and understand, the
materials on which they were working.
This type of detail-oriented reading and
writing helps improve comprehension and
organizational skills.
